The official launch of the book “Financing the Energy Transition in Africa: Interconnected Mini-Grids and Sustainable Development in Nigeria”, authored by Dr. Cheryl U. Ikejiaku, brought together key stakeholders in Nigeria’s energy and policy space in Maitama, Abuja.
The event attracted prominent dignitaries and industry experts, underscoring the growing urgency around sustainable energy solutions and financing frameworks across the continent.
Among those present was the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu, who was represented by the Director of Legal Services, Ibrahim Kashim. Also in attendance was a representative of the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Power, alongside the Head of Legal Services of the South East Development Commission, Barr. Nnanna Oketa.
Speaking with journalists on behalf of the REA Managing Director, Ibrahim Kashim described the publication as a timely and strategic contribution to Nigeria’s energy discourse.
“This is a very welcome development. Technology is not our problem—we already have what it takes to drive energy solutions. However, implementation at scale has remained a major challenge, and that is where the gap lies,” he said.
Kashim emphasized that the book serves as a practical blueprint for policymakers, investors, and stakeholders seeking to address Nigeria’s persistent energy access issues. He revealed that the REA is committed to leveraging insights from the publication to strengthen its ongoing initiatives.
“The Managing Director has directed that we fully engage with this work. The REA is a key player in achieving sustainable energy access in Nigeria, and we are open to collaboration with the author and other stakeholders. We will also share the book with relevant government agencies that can benefit from its innovative ideas,” he added.
The book explores financing mechanisms for interconnected mini-grids, positioning them as a viable solution to Nigeria’s electricity challenges, particularly in underserved and rural communities. It also provides policy recommendations aimed at accelerating clean energy adoption while ensuring economic sustainability.
In her remarks, Dr. Ikejiaku highlighted the need for stronger institutional collaboration, improved regulatory frameworks, and increased investment in decentralized energy systems.

The event concluded with renewed calls for synergy between government institutions, private sector players, and development partners to drive Nigeria’s energy transition agenda.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with energy deficits, the launch of this book signals a significant step toward shaping practical solutions and fostering informed dialogue on sustainable development in Africa’s power sector.
