Honourable Hamisu Mohammed Anani, the Executive Chairman of Wase Local Government Council and the ALGON Chairman of Plateau State, who also serves as the National Publicity Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was on Tuesday honoured at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
The award ceremony was organised by the British American Open University, also known as the Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Open University, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, dedication to public service, and commitment to grassroots development.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Anani described the honour as a historic moment in his life and public service career. He dedicated the award to the people of Wase Local Government Area, stressing that the achievement was a collective one.
“Today marks another history for me. I dedicate this honour to the good people of Wase Local Government because I am in office to serve them. Whatever recognition I receive is a result of the trust they placed in me and the opportunity to serve diligently,” he said.
Hon. Anani noted that his leadership philosophy is anchored on service, development, and inclusive engagement. According to him, true leadership is about empowering people and placing them in the right positions so they can succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.
Leadership is nothing more than putting the right people in the right places so that progress can be achieved. I believe that with sincere leadership and commitment, Nigeria will one day get it right,” he added.
When asked about his decision to establish radio and television stations in his local government area, Hon. Anani explained that Wase Local Government is vast and diverse, making effective communication a major challenge.
“Wase Local Government is very large, and that is why we decided to open radio and television stations. This is to ensure that our people are well informed and can hear directly what is happening in the local government. Information must reach the grassroots for development to be meaningful,” he explained.
The initiative, he said, is aimed at promoting transparency, unity, civic awareness, and active participation of citizens in governance.
The honour has been widely described as a recognition of Hon. Anani’s impactful leadership style and his contributions to strengthening local governance, not only in Plateau State but across Nigeria.
