Jalingo, Taraba State — 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Zonal Chairman for Taraba Central, Hon. Umar D. Doroh, has commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his decision to defect to the ruling APC, describing the move as wise and timely.

Speaking with journalists on Saturday at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo during the governor’s defection ceremony, Hon. Doroh said Governor Kefas’ alignment with the party at the centre would bring greater development opportunities to Taraba State.

According to him, the defection is a positive step that will strengthen governance and enhance access to federal support for key projects across the state.

Hon. Doroh, who hails from Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, noted that despite the numerous developmental challenges facing his area, the governor has recorded notable achievements that deserve commendation.

He specifically praised the introduction of free and compulsory education in the state, as well as the 50 per cent reduction in tertiary institution fees, describing the policies as impactful and people-oriented.

“These initiatives have made education more accessible and affordable for our people, especially the youth. They have also contributed significantly to reducing crime, as more young people are now engaged in school rather than being idle,” he said.

However, the APC zonal chairman urged the state government to do more, particularly in fulfilling promises made to the people during campaigns. He emphasized the urgent need for improved road infrastructure in Sardauna Local Government Area and other parts of the state.
Hon. Doroh stressed that constructing and rehabilitating roads in the area would drastically improve connectivity, noting that a functional road network could reduce travel time between Abuja and Gembu to about seven hours.

We appreciate what the government has done so far, but we are still expecting more. Roads are critical to economic growth, security, and the general well-being of our people,” he added.

He expressed optimism that with Governor Kefas now in the APC, more developmental projects would be attracted to Taraba State, particularly in underserved communities.
