The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has stressed the crucial role of financial literacy in empowering women and promoting sustainable economic growth across the state.

Mrs. Anani made this known while receiving delegates of Women Helping Women during a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin City.

She noted that beyond providing financial support to women, educating them on proper money management and investment strategies is essential to ensuring long term success and independence.
According to her, empowering women must go beyond disbursing funds. “Financial literacy for women is very key. Sometimes, when we empower our women, we must first educate them on how to use the money before handing it out”.

She noted have we really taught them how to manage the money, do we show them how it can grow or multiply, without this knowledge the empowerment may not be sustainable,” she said.

She emphasized that women who understand savings, investments, and small business management are better positioned to uplift their families and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.

Mrs. Anani also commended the group’s leader, Apostle Professor Elizabeth Pedro, for her commitment to community development and for giving back to her roots through various empowerment initiatives.

“When you travel abroad and still remember home, it is highly commendable. It shows humanity, charity, and love. After all, this is our Edo,” she added.
In her remarks, Apostle Pedro expressed appreciation to the First Lady for her continued efforts in improving the lives of women and vulnerable groups in the state.

She noted that a two-day intensive skills acquisition training for 60 women, alongside the establishment of vocational hubs across the three senatorial districts of Edo State, will commence soon, with the aim of equipping women with practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills for self-reliance.

Members of the delegation included the Director-General of the Edo Diaspora Agency, Dr. Loretta Oduware, President of the Edo State Women Association, Mrs. Eki Ogbeide, among other stakeholders.
