Deputy Governor Reaffirms Kebbi’s Commitment to Cultural Heritage at Day Two of Argungu Festival

The Day Two activities of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival continued on a colourful note in Argungu, as top government officials, cultural troupes and thousands of visitors gathered to celebrate one of Africa’s most iconic cultural events.
The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, led the state delegation to the festival arena, accompanied by senior government officials, traditional rulers and invited guests from within and outside the state.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the agricultural and cultural exhibition, the Deputy Governor, Abubakar Umar Tafida, described the festival as a powerful symbol of unity, economic opportunity and cultural preservation. He said the Argungu Festival remains a key platform for projecting Kebbi State’s rich heritage to the global community.
According to him, the state government is determined to sustain and further develop the festival to boost tourism, create jobs for youths and promote local content, particularly in agriculture, fishing and creative industries. He noted that the agricultural displays and cultural performances witnessed on Day Two reflected the resilience, skills and cultural pride of the people of Kebbi State.
“The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival is not just about fishing; it is about our identity, our history and our future. This administration is committed to providing the needed support to ensure that the festival continues to attract investors, tourists and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond,” the Deputy Governor said.
He added that the presence of high-ranking government officials at the festival underscores the importance the state government places on culture as a driver of development and social cohesion. He also commended security agencies and event organizers for ensuring a peaceful and well-coordinated celebration.
The Deputy Governor further assured journalists that the Kebbi State Government would continue to partner with the private sector and relevant stakeholders to upgrade festival infrastructure and enhance international participation in future editions.
Day Two of the festival featured traditional music and dance performances, cultural exhibitions, local cuisine displays and the popular agricultural show, drawing applause from spectators and visitors. The Argungu Festival is expected to continue with more cultural showcases and activities in the coming days, reinforcing Kebbi State’s position as a major cultural and tourism destination in Nigeria.
