The Local Government Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State was conducted peacefully, culminating in the emergence of new party executives to pilot the affairs of the party at the grassroots level.
The congress, which drew delegates, party stakeholders, and observers from across the local government, was widely described as orderly, transparent, and in strict compliance with party guidelines. The atmosphere remained calm throughout the exercise, reflecting unity and cooperation among members.
A significant highlight of the congress was the change in leadership after about 12 years of continuous service by the outgoing executives. Party leaders explained that the transition was part of a deliberate effort to promote inclusiveness, internal democracy, and give other committed members the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of the party.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise, the Chairman of Koko/Besse Local Government, Hon. Sirajo Usman, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congress, describing it as peaceful and credible.
“I am satisfied with the process. It was peaceful, and members conducted themselves in a mature and responsible manner. This shows that our party remains united and strong in Koko/Besse,” he said.
Hon. Usman noted that the decision to usher in new leadership after over a decade was necessary to sustain the party’s vibrancy and encourage broader participation among members.
“After about 12 years in leadership, it became important to allow others to take up responsibility and bring fresh ideas that will further strengthen the party. Leadership is about service, and giving others the opportunity to serve helps in building a stronger and more inclusive party structure,” he added.
He congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to be obedient to party leadership, courageous in their responsibilities, dedicated to duty, and fully committed to the unity and progress of the APC in the area. He also advised them to remain focused and work collectively to consolidate the achievements of the party.
Stakeholders at the congress commended the outgoing executives for their years of service and acknowledged their contributions to the stability and success of the APC in Koko/Besse. They called on party members to rally behind the new leadership to ensure continued growth and electoral success in future political engagements.
The peaceful transition in Koko/Besse is seen as a demonstration of the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and orderly leadership succession, further strengthening the party’s structure across Kebbi State.
