In a decisive move to address the resurgence of insurgent activities in the North-East, the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, alongside his Adamawa State counterpart, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and elder statesman General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd.), on Friday held a high-level security meeting with the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
The strategic engagement comes amid renewed terrorist attacks and security breaches in parts of Adamawa and neighbouring Taraba State, which have sparked concerns among residents and stakeholders in the region.
Strengthening Security Architecture
At the closed-door session, discussions reportedly centred on strengthening ongoing military operations, intensifying intelligence gathering and sharing, and deploying additional security personnel and logistics to vulnerable communities. The leaders also examined the need for improved inter-agency coordination among the Armed Forces, paramilitary units, and local security outfits.
Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across Taraba State. He stressed that sustained collaboration between state governments and federal security agencies remains crucial to restoring normalcy in affected areas.
“The safety of our citizens is paramount. We are determined to work closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that these criminal elements are decisively dealt with,” the governor stated.
Similarly, Governor Fintiri expressed deep concern over the renewed attacks on communities in Adamawa State, describing the situation as a serious threat to peace and socio-economic development. He called for sustained, proactive, and coordinated military action to prevent further escalation.
United Front Against Insecurity
General TY Danjuma, a respected elder statesman and retired military officer, also underscored the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with security forces, noting that collective responsibility is
key to defeating insurgency.
Sources within the Ministry indicated that the Defence Minister assured the visiting leaders of the Federal Government’s commitment to intensifying operations in the North-East theatre. He reportedly pledged that additional resources, surveillance capabilities, and rapid response strategies would be deployed to curb the attacks and restore lasting peace.

The meeting reflects growing concern over security challenges in parts of the North-East and signals a united front by federal and state authorities, as well as key stakeholders, to confront emerging threats.
