Abuja, Nigeria —2026

The National Youth Alliance (NYA) on Monday held a high-level youth leadership and national development conference at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Centre, Abuja, attracting prominent political leaders, academics, and youth stakeholders from across the country.

The conference was organised to address critical issues bordering on youth inclusion, leadership development, and national transformation, with a focus on strengthening the role of young Nigerians in governance and socio-economic development.

Speaking at the event, the President of the National Youth Alliance, Ambassador Aliyu Abbas, described Nigerian youths as a critical force for national progress, stressing the need for increased participation in leadership and decision-making processes.

Ambassador Abbas said the Alliance was committed to providing a credible platform that would empower young Nigerians to move beyond political apathy and actively contribute to shaping the future of the country. He noted that sustainable national development could only be achieved when youths are meaningfully involved in governance, policy formulation, and nation-building.

He further called on governments at all levels to prioritise policies that address youth unemployment, education, and economic empowerment, warning that neglecting the nation’s youthful population poses long-term risks to national stability and development.

The conference featured goodwill messages and speeches from several distinguished personalities, including Dr. Ramatu Tijjani-Aliyu, former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In her address, she emphasised education as a vital tool for sustainable development and urged young people to invest in knowledge acquisition, skills development, and innovation.

Dr. Tijjani-Aliyu encouraged youths to remain resilient and disciplined, stressing that national development requires integrity, perseverance, and active civic engagement.
Also speaking was Segu S, former aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Chairman of the Occasion, who charged young Nigerians to engage constructively in the political process. He highlighted the importance of mentorship, political organisation, and strategic participation in governance, noting that meaningful change can only be achieved through deliberate involvement rather than passive criticism.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Ahmed Adamu spoke on leadership, innovation, and national responsibility. He urged youths to harness education, technology, and entrepreneurship as tools for solving societal challenges and driving economic growth.

Professor Adamu emphasised that leadership begins with personal responsibility and encouraged young Nigerians to position themselves as solution providers capable of contributing positively to national development.

The event was also attended by Hon. Sulama A. Gumi and Hon. Shehu Abdu Daura, Senior Special Assistant on Drugs, Narcotics, and Human Trafficking, Katsina State, who both underscored the need for youth involvement in tackling social vices and promoting national cohesion.

Participants at the conference echoed calls for unity, increased youth representation in governance, and sustained investment in education and skills development as key pillars for building a stable and prosperous Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was the official inauguration of State Chapter Chairmen of the National Youth Alliance, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The inauguration marked a strategic step toward strengthening the Alliance’s presence at the grassroots level and enhancing coordinated youth advocacy across the states.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment by the National Youth Alliance to continue advocating for youth-centered policies, leadership development, and inclusive governance nationwide.
