Edo First Lady’s Office Welcomes New Year Babies Across State Hospitals

The Office of the First Lady, Edo State, has commenced the year 2026 with visits to healthcare facilities across the state to celebrate babies born in the early hours of the New Year.

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, led the initiative with a visit to the Central Hospital, Sapele Road, Benin City, where New Year babies and their parents received cash gifts and essential baby items. The gesture was aimed at sharing goodwill, encouragement, and joy with families as they ushered in the New Year.
Mrs. Anani, who was represented by the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader, Lady Betty Benson Okoebor, expressed delight at the safe delivery of the babies. She congratulated the parents and commended the dedication and professionalism of healthcare workers who ensured successful deliveries
She further noted that the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, remains deeply committed to quality healthcare delivery, with particular emphasis on the wellbeing of women and children.
The Medical Director of the Central Hospital, Dr. Bruse Osa, disclosed that the New Year babies included a male child, Baby Paul Blessing, delivered at exactly 3:29 a.m., making him one of the first babies born in Edo State in 2026. This was followed by the birth of a female, Baby Francis Ehinomefa, at 6:08 a.m., and another male child, Baby Godspower Amina, at 7:52 a.m.
One of the mothers, Mrs. Paul Blessing, expressed gratitude to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his love, care, and commitment to prioritising the wellbeing of women and children across the state.
In a related development, Mrs. Anani also visited the Military Hospital, Airport Road, Benin City, where another New Year baby was celebrated. She was received by the hospital’s Administrative Officer, Captain Ahmed Usman, who announced that the first baby of the year at the facility, Baby Tochukwu Sarah, was delivered at 1:30 a.m., weighing 3 kilograms.
The mother of the baby, Mrs. Tochukwu Sarah, appreciated the Office of the First Lady for the gifts and cash support extended to her child.
Dignitaries present during the visits included the wife of the Secretary to the State Government, Hajia Nimata Umar Ikhilor; the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mrs. Betty Okonoboh; Oredo APC Woman Leader, Mrs. Esther Kolade; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and Chief Protocol Officer to the First Lady, Mrs. Mabel Obetoh, as well as other government officials.
The visits underscored the unwavering commitment of the Office of the First Lady to maternal and child healthcare and its continued support for families and healthcare institutions across Edo State.
