The Nigerian Armed Forces have recorded significant progress in the ongoing fight against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent extremism since the tenure of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), security authorities have said.

According to military sources, coordinated operations conducted across various theatres of operation have led to the neutralisation of over 10,000 terrorists and bandits, marking one of the most substantial security gains in recent years. The period has been characterised by intensified joint military operations, improved intelligence gathering, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
Under General Musa’s leadership as CDS, the Armed Forces adopted a more integrated approach to counterinsurgency, combining air, land, and special operations while strengthening cooperation with intelligence and security agencies. This strategy has reportedly resulted in the disruption of terrorist networks, the destruction of key enclaves, and the recovery of large caches of arms and ammunition.

Military operations in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions have also led to the rescue of thousands of kidnapped victims, the degradation of terrorist command structures, and the restoration of relative stability in several previously volatile communities.

Security analysts note that the progress has been sustained through continued support from the Federal Government and the Ministry of Defence, alongside investments in troop welfare, equipment modernisation, and capacity building. These efforts have improved operational effectiveness and boosted morale among personnel in the field.
While acknowledging that security challenges remain, defence officials maintain that the Armed Forces are firmly on the offensive and remain committed to completely dismantling terrorist and bandit groups across the country.

The military has reassured Nigerians that ongoing operations will be sustained until lasting peace and security are achieved nationwide.
