The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), General Christopher Musa (rtd), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture and ensuring the effective management of the country’s defence sector.
The Minister gave this assurance on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, while receiving the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Nigeria, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, who paid him a working visit at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, popularly known as Ship House, in Abuja.
General Musa noted that the Federal Government remains resolute in its determination to build a formidable, professional, and responsive defence system capable of addressing both conventional and emerging security threats across the country. He emphasized that security remains a top priority of the administration, stressing that sustainable national development cannot be achieved without peace and stability.
According to the Defence Minister, ongoing reforms in the defence sector are aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, improving inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring optimal utilization of available resources. He further underscored the importance of continuous capacity building, strategic planning, and intellectual engagement in shaping Nigeria’s defence and security policies.
General Musa commended the National Defence College for its critical role in grooming senior military officers and key decision-makers in strategic leadership, security management, and defence studies. He described the NDC as a vital institution that contributes significantly to national security through research, training, and policy advisory support.
“The Federal Government recognizes the strategic importance of the National Defence College in developing high-level manpower for national security and defence management. We will continue to support the College in fulfilling its mandate,” the Minister stated.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, said the visit was to strengthen institutional ties between the College and the Ministry of Defence, as well as to brief the Minister on the College’s ongoing programmes and activities.
Rear Admiral Ahmed highlighted the NDC’s commitment to producing well-rounded military and civilian leaders equipped with the strategic knowledge required to address Nigeria’s complex security environment. He also expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continuous support and guidance.
The visit, according to him, reflects the shared vision of both institutions to enhance strategic thinking, promote national cohesion, and contribute meaningfully to the formulation of sound defence and security policies for the country.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by both parties to deepen collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s defence capabilities and ensuring a secure and stable nation.
