Abuja, Nigeria —2025

In a robust gathering of healthcare leaders, top government officials, business executives and stakeholders at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Dr. Everest Okpara, Chairman and CEO of Everight Diagnostic & Laboratory Services Ltd, used the occasion of the company’s 20th anniversary and the launch of his new book Managing Employee Retention and Turnover in Nigeria to spotlight critical issues facing the Nigerian health sector.

Addressing journalists after the ceremony — where dignitaries also praised the work of the Everight Healthcare Foundation — Dr. Okpara said the book was more than a management manual; it was part of a broader effort to tackle talent retention and institutional excellence in Nigeria’s healthcare and corporate sectors, particularly amid rising brain drain and workforce challenges.

Okpara called for stronger financing mechanisms for healthcare, urging support for what he described as a “Bank of Health” — an idea aimed at providing affordable, long-term funding for hospitals, diagnostic facilities and health infrastructure. He argued that without accessible financing at single-digit interest rates, many local providers are forced to outsource advanced medical services abroad, worsening medical tourism and capital flight.

He noted that Nigeria currently loses billions of dollars each year as patients and providers seek complex diagnostics and treatments overseas — costs that could be slashed if local institutions were empowered with adequate financial support.

Commenting on the role of Everight Healthcare Foundation, Dr. Okpara highlighted its mission to broaden access to quality care through outreach programs, subsidised services and community-focused initiatives. He reiterated that sustainable healthcare must be inclusive and equitable, ensuring that vulnerable populations benefit from diagnostic advancements and preventive care locally.

The event also saw tributes from senior government figures who described Everight’s growth from a modest startup to a benchmark in Nigerian diagnostics as emblematic of private-sector contributions to national development.
