Edo First Lady’s Office Celebrates Christmas Babies, Reaffirms Commitment to Healthcare

The Office of the First Lady of Edo State has celebrated the birth of Christmas babies across major health facilities in the state, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to quality and accessible healthcare, particularly for women and children.
In a heartwarming Christmas Day outing on Thursday, 25 December 2025, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, visited the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Ugbowo, Benin City, to celebrate the hospital’s Christmas Baby of the Year.
The baby, delivered at 8:27 a.m., was named Emmanuella by Mrs. Anani, who expressed joy and goodwill during the visit. She presented gifts to the newborn and family in the spirit of the yuletide season.
Mrs. Anani used the occasion to reiterate the unwavering commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo to strengthening Edo State’s healthcare sector, noting the governor’s passion for ensuring that citizens have access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, reaffirmed the state government’s strong support for the health sector, with particular emphasis on maternal and child healthcare delivery.
In her remarks, the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Professor Idai Ize-Iyamu, expressed profound gratitude to the Office of the First Lady for the thoughtful gifts and support extended to mothers and newborns, especially babies born on Christmas Day.
Parents of the first Christmas baby, Mr. and Mrs. Emese Osakpanmwan, thanked the Edo State Government for the kind gesture and gifts presented to their daughter, Emmanuella Nosazeme Osakpanmwan.
Meanwhile, at the Edo Specialist Hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Mrs. Anthonia Njoku, announced the birth of the hospital’s Christmas babies. She disclosed that the first female Christmas baby, Obi Perpetual, was delivered at 2:15 a.m. to Mrs. Obi Chidima, while the second Christmas baby, a male named Enogieru Osasumwen, was delivered at 6:07 a.m. to Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Enogieru.
In another visit, Mrs. Anani also visited the Central Hospital, Sapele Road, where the Medical Director, Dr. Bruce Osa, revealed that the hospital’s first baby of the day, Enoholo Opeyemi, a male, was born at 10:02 a.m.
The visits underscore the Office of the First Lady’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, wellbeing, and empowerment of women and children across Edo State, especially during significant moments such as childbirth.
