Awka, Anambra State — 2025
The Secretary of Awka South Local Government Council, Hon. Sir Peter Uyanwune, has praised the transformative developmental projects executed under the administration of the Council Chairman, Hon. Chinedu Okafor, describing them as “impactful, strategic, and people-oriented.”
Speaking with journalists at the Council Secretariat on Thursday, Uyanwune outlined a series of improvements undertaken despite the council’s limited financial resources.
Secretariat Remodelling and 24-Hour Power Supply
According to him, the Chairman has fully remodelled the Council Secretariat, giving it a modern look and improving its functionality. The facelift, he said, has boosted workers’ morale and enhanced administrative efficiency.
He also disclosed that the Secretariat now enjoys constant 24-hour electricity, made possible by the installation of solar energy systems as an alternative power source.
“This has significantly improved service delivery and created a conducive working environment for staff,” he noted.
Road Palliatives and Community Support
The Council Secretary further revealed that the local government has embarked on palliative repairs of major roads within and around Awka South, easing movement for residents and reducing transport-related stress.
In addition, he highlighted the scholarship scheme initiated for indigent students in the area, as well as the upgrade of primary healthcare centres, all aimed at improving education and community health outcomes.
APGA’s Victory Linked to Soludo’s Performance
Hon. Uyanwune also attributed the recent electoral victory of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the area to what he described as the “sterling performance” of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in his first term.
He expressed strong optimism that the Governor’s second tenure would usher in even greater development for Awka South and Anambra State in general.
Commitment to Better Governance
The achievements listed by the Council Secretary, observers say, reflect a robust commitment to good governance, grassroots empowerment, and improved service delivery.
With ongoing support from both the Local Government Chairman and the State Government, residents of Awka South are expected to witness sustained progress and enhanced quality of life in the years ahead.
