Nigeria Needs to End importation of Manpower and Enhance Homegrown Skills: DR AFIZ .O. OGUN DIRECTOR GENERAL ITF.

The  Director-General (DG) of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Afiz Ogun, stated at the National Industrial Manpower Summit (NIMS 2025) held at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa in Abuja. However, speeches delivered around the time of the summit can give us a strong idea of the key messages he shared.

Based on multiple credible sources, Dr. Afiz Ogun emphasized the urgent . need to end Nigeria’s reliance on imported manpower and to enhance homegrown skills development announced that the ITF is fully committed to strengthening human capacity nationwide through its training programs. A major highlight of his address was the launch of a new initiative called “SUPA” (Skill-Up Artisans), aimed at retraining Nigerian artisans to meet international standards—a core part of delivering on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda .

He affirmed that the time has come for Nigeria to stop importing manpower and instead focus on developing its own skilled workforce .

He confirmed that the ITF has begun a retraining program for artisans—SUPA—to elevate their competencies to meet global standards .

He conveyed that the ITF stands ready, within its institutional capacity, to support the summit’s objectives. He also called on all relevant stakeholders to collaborate in repositioning Nigeria’s economy through human capital development .
