His Majesty King Felix Otuwarikpo Eze igbu upata 11/Nye udu upata kingdom has called on the Nigerian government to place renewed emphasis on the identification, development, and utilization of available skills across the country. The monarch made this statement during an exclusive interview with journalists at the National Industrial Manpower Summit, held at the prestigious Banquet Hall Villa.

Addressing the media shortly after participating in a panel session, King Otuwarikpo emphasized that the nation’s industrial growth and economic development depend heavily on harnessing local talent and refining already existing skill sets.

“We must begin to re-emphasize the skills that are already available within our communities. The government needs to take deliberate steps to invest in skill development and create avenues where these skills can be applied effectively,” he said.

The summit, which brought together policymakers, industry leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in the manpower development sector, focused on strategies to bridge the skills gap and enhance workforce readiness in line with global standards.

King Otuwarikpo, known for his advocacy on youth empowerment and sustainable development, further noted that while introducing new skills through innovation is important, Nigeria must not overlook the wealth of untapped human capital already present within its population.

“It's not just about creating new jobs, but about recognizing and strengthening the existing capacities of our people. We need a paradigm shift in how we view skill acquisition—away from just certificates and towards practical, result-oriented training,” he added.

His remarks were well-received by summit participants, many of whom echoed his sentiments during subsequent discussions.
