On Saturday, August 16, 2025, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State participated in the Edo Central Senatorial District bye-election by casting his vote at his polling unit, Ward 2, Unit 1, Udomi Primary School, Esan Central Local Government Area.

Arriving at approximately 9:45 a.m., the governor went through the accreditation process before voting at 9:52 a.m. Following the exercise, Governor Okpebholo expressed concerns over the operational efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), describing the process as “too slow” and causing “unnecessary delays.”

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address these technical challenges promptly to ensure smoother and more efficient elections in the future.

The bye-election was conducted to fill the senatorial seat left vacant by Governor Okpebholo’s assumption of office earlier this year.

Reports from other polling units in the area indicated a steady turnout of voters, with the accreditation process starting as early as 8 a.m. at some locations, including Eguare Primary School in Irrua, where voters  described the process as peaceful and orderly.

Governor Okpebholo’s participation marks a significant moment in the democratic process as Edo State residents exercise their right to vote and shape their representation in the Senate.
