Architect Obekpa Anthony has officially declared his intention to contest the Benue State governorship election in 2027, expressing a strong commitment to transforming the state’s economic landscape.
Speaking to journalists in Makurdi, Obekpa said his ambition is born out of a deep desire to move Benue beyond its current status as a predominantly agrarian state to a more industrialized and economically vibrant region.
“My vision is to reposition Benue as a productive industrial hub, where agriculture is not just practiced but processed and exported,” he said. “We have the resources, the talent, and the potential — what we need now is purposeful leadership to unlock these opportunities.”
Obekpa, an accomplished architect and technocrat, emphasized that his administration, if elected, would prioritize infrastructure development, industrialization, youth empowerment, and value-added agriculture.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, political observers say Obekpa’s entry into the race could reshape the dynamics, especially among candidates emphasizing economic transformation.
